Lockean guarantees. We are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In 2/3 of the states LGs are a part of their state constitution. We must solidify these words from the Declaration of Independence (DOI) as the fundamental principles guiding our nation and our consensual discourse. Our agenda must uphold these rights in the broad sense as implied in the DOI and written in most state constitutions.
Accept our current economic system rewards humans’ destructive side; homo economicus; that we are no more than interest-calculating machines and that private vice leads to public good is wrong and baseless. We know from anthropology, sociology, and psychology that humans’ stronger side of cooperation, empathy, fairness, consensus, and restraint allowed humans to survive and flourish. We must have open discussions that reflect the best of our nature and create a system that supports this reality for the sake of our progeny and the survival of our planet. To achieve this goal, we must create a system that favors and rewards these behaviors.
Apply the same standard. End policies and behavior that violate our inalienable rights and replace protected classes with human rights. Just because someone is a member of a protected class does not mean they possess values that lead to a more just and sustainable society. We must replace identity politics based on gender and ethnic groups with wage earner identity that encompasses 90% of American people and breaks down ethnic and racial lines. Before he was assassinated, Martin Luther King Jr. organized his Poor People’s Campaign because he understood there could not be racial justice without economic security.
